Violinist Ga Hyun Cho, who has been winning acclaim and awards around the globe, came to international prominence upon winning First Prize and Audience Prize in the Max Rostal International Violin Competition in 2012.

Ms. Cho had previously won First prize in the Washington International competition in 2009, Second Prize in the International Violin Competition Leopold Mozart in 2006, in the Young Concert Artist International Audition of 2008, and Second Prize in the Città di Brescia International Violin Competition, 2010. In a special citation in Brescia, she was noted for “Best Performance” of the composition “Grip” by Carlo Boccadoro.

Cho, originally from Seoul, South Korea, began playing the violin at age four, and made her debut with the Korean Symphony Orchestra just six years later. She has since built a successful performing career throughout Asia, United States, and Europe. Ms. Cho has performed as a soloist with prominent orchestras including the Seoul Philharmonic Orchestra, KBS Symphony Orchestra, Korean Chamber Orchestra, Sendai Philharmonic Orchestra, Haffner Sinfonietta, Accademia Musicale di Schio, Brandenburgische Staatsorchester Frankfurt, and the Munich Radio Orchestra. She has been featured over the airwaves of KBS South Korea, NHK Japan, Deutschlandradio Kultur Berlin, Radio Classica, Milano and KUSC, Los Angeles. She has been invited to perform as a chamber musician at Yellow Barn, at a gala concert for the New England Conservatory’s Jordan Hall, at Carnegie Zankel Hall, LACMA, Shumei Arts Center, and the Aurora Festival.

Ga Hyun has served as concertmaster for the SNU Symphony Orchestra, the New England Conservatory Philharmonia, as well as for the NEC’s Chamber Orchestra and Opera Orchestra.

Ms. Cho is a graduate of Seoul National University and the New England Conservatory of Music, studying with Young-uck Kim and Donald Weilerstein, respectively. She is currently studying toward her Doctorate Degree at the University of Southern California’s Thornton School of Music as a Startling Foundation Scholarship Recipient, after finishing the Artist Diploma program, under the tutelage of Midori Goto.
