East Meets West

featuring friends from Japan!

Join Symphony Irvine in welcoming pipa soloist Shan Xiang Tu, his wife, soprano Rumi Yano, and daughter, soprano Sakura To for a very special concert combining tasty treats from the East with delectable delights from the West. Under the baton of Assistant Conductor Jeremy DelaCuadra, the orchestra will perform several original compositions for pipa and orchestra composed by Mr. Tu along with assorted morsels from the Western repertoire served up by Ms. Yano, Ms. To, and (of course) the orchestra.

In the summer of 2014, several musicians from Symphony Irvine, La Sierra University, and UCLA traveled to Japan to perform with Shan Xiang Tu, Rumi Yano, Sakura To, and others. Now the three soloists are joining us here in America for a concert that you will not want to miss. Visit our current season's listings for more information.
